Toothless smiles

Canon had his first tooth break the surface yesterday, so i immediately became nostalgic about those precious toothless smiles as they will no longer be. Here is sweet one he generously shared with me.

one year ago today...

Dear Canon,

One year ago this morning your tiny body heaved it's first mighty cry to let the world know you were here...and planning to stay. Oh, how small you were, but how thankful we were that you made it to be that big. So many in our situation start oh so much smaller than you.

Here we are, a year later, and you are currently unloading the utility closet. I guess the sock drawer that you were working on a minute ago just felt too juvenile, and you were ready to graduate to heavy machinery. But now, sandpapering the kitchen floor with has been abandoned for some lap time.

You seem to have recovered your difficult start, now if I can just follow your example. I love you baby boy. I can't imagine life without you.

always,

momma

Winter Fog

I apologize for not having much to say the past few months. This season has been an especially dark and cold one, for many reasons unrelated to the weather; although the winter does slow my response time & blow coldness into the deepest regions of my soul. I do intend to attempt to thaw out with some of these warmer rays of hope starting to come through my window, & then maybe I'll have something to offer besides frost bite...

My friends, if I get lost in the cave, please don't leave me there: come find me so I don't freeze to death. I wouldn't ask, if (one) I didn't know that it was necessary. Hibernation is only therapeutic for a time, then becomes deathly dangerous. And (two) I believe that I would only need you to lead me to the exit, and I think I could find my way from there.

Snow Falling On Cedars and Little Boy Tongues!

When I happened to glance out the window this morning, and saw big beautiful flakes drifting down from the sky, I rushed to grab my camera. As most of you from this area know, our amount of snowfall this year has been a rarity. I know that it could be years before we see this again, so I didn't want to miss another special opportunity. But...I had to obtain a subject for my snow shots. Isaac was involved with his cereal, and no amount of pleading would make him hurry or consider pausing cereal for some snow pictures. I threw Canon in a bunting and headed out, but after one very somber shot, he told me what he thought of sitting out in the cold snow, and although we don't speak the same language, I perfectly understood. So, I headed back in to work on Isaac. Although it took promise of the oldest child birthrite and the batmobile (don't tell him or 1994 Altima is anything BUT the batmobile), I had a subject...so off we went! Hope you enjoy these, Canon didn't last long...but I was thankful for what I got. The flakes only lasted a few minutes, and I am so glad I didn't just say...oh next time....I'll probably add more to facebook as I just started editing these. Hope everyone had a wonderful Friday.

Cry...Ay....Ay Baby

Oh, poor Canon. Last week, he developed a nasty cough that quickly turned into labored breathing. A few tests later in the emergency room revealed Canon had RSV. With early lungs this little guy has had a rough go of it. This weekend, all that crud started loosening up, his fever lessened, and our little guy perked up a bit. I thought he might be up for a few pictures today, but...as you can see...withing the four and a half seconds of time that passed between sitting squishy ten pound Canon down, and picking firm ten pound Canon up...the squishy one fell to pieces. So four and a half seconds (and a few clicks) later, squishy Canon was back in my arms and there to stay...for now.

Snow Much Fun with Dehring

Dehring is my oldest daughter, and second of six. I would guess that snow days rank pretty high on her favorites list.

Spending time with friends and family has become a chiche` phrase used as a filler for awards ceremony participants lacking a nice long list of interesting activites. But, if anyone could bring back the value to said phrase, it would be Dehring...because she values friends and family.

Today I had the pleasure of watching her push her younger siblings, carry them back up the hill, pack snow for better sledding, be the bottom of the dogpile, build x-game ramps and a snow fort, give away her gloves and hat, laugh, smile, giggle, play and thoroughly enjoy herself. Her only complaint was that her brothers, Paxon and Gant didn't join the family in our snow fun.

Thank you, sweet girl for a wonderful day together.
